Why start here
Most year-end reviews start with goals. That's backwards.
Knowing what you want starts with knowing who you are.
Without clarity on what you actually want, goals become a list of shoulds that quietly fade by February.
Start instead with the year you just lived: what gave you energy, what you kept coming back to, what you avoided. The answers are already there. This workshop helps you read them.
What we'll do together
Two hours to look back, see clearly, and choose what's next.
Included: Fieldbook early access
Clarity fades. Fieldbook helps it stick.
Most of what you realize in a workshop fades within weeks because there's nowhere to put it. Fieldbook, a private app from Vana Lab, is that place: you'll set it up in the session and keep adding as the year unfolds.
It doesn't tell you who you are. It shows you what you've noticed, and you draw the conclusions.
Notice
What gave you energy?
Rebuilt our team's campaign-tracking spreadsheet. Looked up and three hours were gone.
Look across
See your entries side by side. You decide what they mean.
- Rebuilt the team's campaign spreadsheet — lost track of time
- Made the group trip budget spreadsheet, just for fun
- Sunday: compared apartments in a spreadsheet, happily
"spreadsheet" shows up in 3 entries
I took the marketing job for the creative side. What lights me up is making sense of numbers.
Test it
Ask the analytics team if I can help with one report this month.
As expectedExactly what I thought. I'm signing up for a data course.
Is this for you?
This workshop is for you if…
- The year flew by and you're not sure what it added up to.
- You're at a crossroads and want a clearer basis for choosing.
- You keep setting goals that don't stick.
- You're doing well on paper, but want more of your life to feel like your own.
It's not for you if you want someone to hand you the answer. I won't tell you what you want. I'll help you see what's already there.
From earlier Know What You Want workshops
What past participants said
"I received personalized advice and ideas to reach my own specific goals, rather than generic ideas I could have read in self-help books."
Lup M., Web Developer
"The course made me really slow down to reflect on who I am, my values, what was important and not important in my life."
Amy K., Portfolio Manager
"This workshop is not an infomercial promising instant results. You will gain an understanding of your values and establish a strong foundation to help you move forward."
Job S., Financial Services Consultant
Who's leading this
Hi, I'm Robert.
I followed other people's definition of success all the way to a trading desk, where I did well on paper and wondered whether the work fit me. What changed things was getting to know myself: what gives me energy and where I do my best work. This workshop grew out of sharing that process with friends asking the same questions.
Since then I've coached executives, written the Wall Street Journal bestseller Selling Your Expertise, taught leadership communication at Wharton, and founded Vana Lab.
